Mangala Chaturthi is a monthly fast observed on the 4th day (Chaturthi tithi) of Shukla Paksha dedicated to Lord Ganesha. It is distinct from Sankashti Chaturthi (Krishna Paksha) and is particularly observed by women for the well-being of their families. The Maghi Chaturthi (in Magha month) is the most celebrated instance, known as Ganesh Jayanti.

Procedure

Observe fast on Shukla Chaturthi. Bathe and set up Ganesha idol or image. Offer red or yellow flowers, modak (sweet dumpling), durva grass, and coconut. Recite Ganesh Atharvashirsha or Ganesh Chalisa. Chant "Om Gan Ganapataye Namah" 108 times. Perform aarti and distribute prasad (modak). Break fast after evening puja.
