Karthigai Vrat
Karthigai Vrat is a sacred Tamil Hindu observance dedicated to Lord Kartikeya (Murugan), the God of War and Victory, observed on the day when the moon is in conjunction with the Krittika (Pleiades) nakshatra. The most prominent celebration is on the full moon of the Tamil month Karthigai (November–December), known as Karthigai Deepam, when lamps are lit across homes and temples. It is one of the oldest festivals in Tamil tradition, predating many Sanskrit texts.

Procedure
Observe fast on the day of Karthigai star. Light oil lamps (especially sesame oil) in the evening at the entrance of the home and around the Tulsi plant. Visit Murugan temple. Offer vel (spear symbol), flowers, and fruits. Chant Murugan's names (Skanda, Shanmuga, Subrahmanya). On Karthigai Deepam (full moon), light a grand lamp and keep it burning through the night.

Fasting Rules

Break fast after evening lamp-lighting ritual and Murugan puja. Eat prasad (pongal, fruits, or sweet rice).
