Annual Fasts — Hindu Sacred Fast
Hartalika Teej
Hartalika Teej is observed by married and unmarried women on the Tritiya (third day) of Shukla Paksha in Bhadrapada month. The name comes from "Harat" (abducted) and "Aalika" (female friend) — referring to Parvati's friend who abducted her to prevent her marriage to someone other than Shiva. The fast is observed without water (nirjala) for 24 hours. It is especially popular in North India.
