Ekadashi Fasts — Hindu Sacred Fast
Annada Ekadashi Vrat
Annada Ekadashi falls on the Krishna Paksha Ekadashi of Bhadrapada month (August–September). "Annada" means "giver of food/grain," and this Ekadashi is strongly associated with the act of annadana — the donation of food to the hungry — which is considered the greatest form of charity in Hinduism. The Brahma Vaivarta Purana narrates that Lord Krishna told Yudhishthira that observing this Ekadashi frees ancestors stuck in lower realms and grants them liberation. It is therefore also observed for the welfare of departed souls.
