Annual Fasts — Hindu Sacred Fast
Ahoi Ashtami Vrat
Ahoi Ashtami is a fast observed exclusively by mothers for the long life, health, and prosperity of their children. It falls on the Ashtami (8th day) of Krishna Paksha in Kartik month — eight days before Diwali. Mothers observe a complete waterless fast from sunrise until the stars appear in the evening sky. The fast involves worshipping Ahoi Mata (a form of Goddess Parvati) and listening to the Ahoi Ashtami Vrat Katha.
