Shiva Worship — Vedic Puja Vidhi

Nag Devata Puja

Deity Nag Devata (Serpent Deity)
Duration 1–1.5 hours
Category Shiva Worship

Nag Devata Puja is the ritual worship of the divine serpent deities who hold a revered place in Hindu tradition as guardians of the earth, water sources, and cosmic energy. Serpents are considered manifestations of Lord Shiva (who wears Vasuki as an ornament) and Lord Vishnu (who rests on Shesha Nag). The puja is especially significant for removing Kaal Sarp Dosha, Sarpa Dosha, or afflictions caused by harm to snakes in past lives. It is widely performed on Nag Panchami and at serpent shrines. Worship of Nag Devata is believed to protect the family from snake bites, ward off hidden enemies, and bless devotees with progeny and prosperity.

Benefits

Removes Kaal Sarp Dosha and Sarpa Dosha from the horoscope, protects the family from snake bites and venom, blesses childless couples with progeny, removes hidden fears and subconscious blocks, brings harmony in family relationships, and shields the home from unseen dangers.

Step-by-Step Procedure

Draw or place an image of a snake on a clean surface using turmeric paste or use a silver or clay snake idol. Offer milk, flowers, and durva grass. Apply sindoor or turmeric to the image. Light incense and a ghee lamp. Chant the Nag Gayatri mantra or Vasuki Stotram. Offer kheer or milk-based sweets. Pray for the protection of the family and removal of Sarpa Dosha. Conclude with aarti and release the offered milk near an anthill or water body.
