Shiva Worship — Vedic Puja Vidhi

Shravan Somvar Puja

Deity Lord Shiva
Duration Full day (puja: 1–2 hours)
Category Shiva Worship

Shravan Somvar Puja is the Shiva worship performed every Monday during the holy month of Shravan (July–August) — the most sacred month for Lord Shiva. According to Shiva Purana, Lord Shiva is in his most benevolent and receptive form during Shravan, and prayers offered during this month bear hundredfold fruit. Devotees observe a strict fast, pour water (jalabhishek) on Shivalinga throughout the day, offer bilva leaves, and many undertake the Kanwar Yatra pilgrimage to fetch Gangajal for the abhishek.
