Diwali Puja (Lakshmi-Ganesh Puja)
Diwali Puja is the most auspicious Lakshmi-Ganesh puja of the year, performed on the new moon night of Kartik month (Amavasya). Goddess Lakshmi — the deity of wealth, fortune, and abundance — is invited into the home along with Lord Ganesha, the remover of obstacles. Homes are cleaned, adorned with diyas (oil lamps) and rangoli, and the puja is conducted at night during the pradosh kaal (dusk). Businessmen open new account books (bahi-khata) and seek blessings for the coming year. This puja is the centerpiece of the five-day Diwali festival.

Step-by-Step Procedure
Clean and decorate the entire house with diyas, rangoli, and flowers. Set up an altar with idols of Lakshmi and Ganesha. Place new coins, account books, and valuables near the idol. At pradosh kaal (dusk), begin with Ganesh puja, then Lakshmi puja with 16 upacharas (offerings). Light all diyas throughout the house. Recite Lakshmi Chalisa or Sri Sukta. Perform aarti and distribute sweets as prasad.
