Ekadashi Fasts — Hindu Sacred Fast
Trishringa Ekadashi Vrat
Trishringa Ekadashi is a sacred Ekadashi that carries the combined power of three peaks of spiritual merit — hence the name "Trishringa" (three peaks or summits). It is observed by those seeking simultaneous liberation from physical, mental, and karmic suffering. Devotees worship Lord Vishnu with deep concentration and observe strict austerities to ascend the three peaks of dharma, jnana (knowledge), and bhakti (devotion) in a single day of fasting.

Benefits
Simultaneously removes physical illness, mental afflictions, and karmic burdens. Grants the triple blessings of dharma, knowledge, and devotion. Bestows long life, prosperity, and liberation. Protects the devotee's family across three generations.
Procedure
On Dashami eat a single sattvik meal at midday. On Ekadashi wake at dawn and take a purifying bath. Light three lamps (representing dharma, jnana, and bhakti) before the Vishnu altar. Offer three types of flowers (preferably lotus, tulsi garland, and yellow marigold). Recite Vishnu Sahasranama three times. Observe mauna (silence) for at least three hours. Perform charity — ideally donating three items such as grain, cloth, and cow-milk.
When to Observe
Observed on specific Ekadashi dates designated in the Panchang as Trishringa Ekadashi. Consult a local Panchang or priest for the exact date each year, as it varies by regional tradition and lunar calendar calculations.
Fasting Rules
Complete fast from all grains, lentils, onion, garlic, and non-vegetarian food. Sendha namak only if phalahar is observed. The key austerity is maintaining the triple discipline — silence of speech, purity of thought, and cleanliness of body — throughout the entire Ekadashi day.
How to Break the Fast
Break fast on Dwadashi after performing the morning triple-lamp puja. Offer water to Tulsi three times. Donate to charity before eating. Begin with three morsels of prasad (fruit, milk sweet, and sesame) to honour the triple blessing of the vrat.
