Ekadashi Fasts — Hindu Sacred Fast
Putrada Ekadashi Vrat
Putrada Ekadashi (meaning "son-giving Ekadashi") occurs twice a year — on Shravana Shukla Ekadashi and Pausha Shukla Ekadashi. It is specifically observed by couples seeking a son or by parents praying for the welfare of their existing children. According to the Bhavishya Purana, Lord Vishnu himself told King Suketuman that this fast grants the boon of a virtuous, long-lived son. The fast holds extraordinary power for fulfilling the desire for progeny.

Benefits
Grants the boon of a son, ensures healthy and virtuous children, removes obstacles in conception, bestows Lord Vishnu's blessings for the entire family, and earns the merit of all Ekadashi fasts for those who observe it sincerely.
Procedure
Begin Dashami evening with a light sattvik meal. On Ekadashi, rise before sunrise and bathe. Perform Vishnu puja with tulsi leaves, yellow flowers, and incense. Chant Vishnu Sahasranama and the Putrada Ekadashi Vrat Katha. Stay awake through the night meditating on Vishnu if possible. Donate to a Brahmin or feed the needy. Break fast on Dwadashi after sunrise worship.
When to Observe
Twice yearly — Pausha Shukla Ekadashi (December/January) and Shravana Shukla Ekadashi (July/August). Both dates are equally potent for the boon of progeny.
