Ekadashi Fasts — Hindu Sacred Fast
Pausha Putrada Ekadashi Vrat
Pausha Putrada Ekadashi falls on the Shukla Ekadashi of the Pausha month (December–January) and is one of two "Putrada" (son-giving) Ekadashis in the Hindu calendar — the other being Shravana Putrada. "Putrada" means "one that grants a son," and this Ekadashi is the most powerful fast observed by couples seeking to conceive a child. The Vishnu Purana tells of King Suketuman and Queen Shaibya of Bhadravati, who were childless and deeply sorrowful. After wandering in the forest and receiving guidance from sages, they observed this Ekadashi with complete devotion. Vishnu appeared before them and granted them a virtuous, long-lived son. The fast is equally beneficial for all couples facing fertility challenges and for the wellbeing of existing children.

Procedure
Both husband and wife should observe this fast together for maximum benefit. On Dashami, eat once with sattvik food. On Ekadashi, both partners bathe before sunrise. Worship Narayana together with tulsi, yellow flowers, fruits, and incense. Recite the Pausha Putrada Ekadashi Vrat Katha. Chant "Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya" and pray specifically for the desired blessing. Donate cows, gold, or food to Brahmins. Perform joint night vigil. Break fast together on Dwadashi.
When to Observe
Pausha Shukla Ekadashi — once per year (December/January). Couples trying to conceive should observe this Ekadashi consecutively for at least 3 or 5 years for cumulative benefit.
