Ekadashi Fasts — Hindu Sacred Fast
Apara Ekadashi Vrat
Apara Ekadashi falls on the Krishna Paksha Ekadashi of Jyeshtha month (May–June). "Apara" means boundless or infinite, referring to the infinite merit this fast bestows. According to the Brahma Purana, it destroys sins arising from false testimony, abandoning one's duties, and even Brahmahatya (killing of a Brahmin). It is especially recommended for those seeking fame, social respect, and the removal of a bad reputation.

Benefits
Destroys sins of false testimony and dereliction of duty, restores lost fame and reputation, grants infinite spiritual merit, removes ancestral curses, and ensures divine protection in this life and the next.
Procedure
Begin with a resolve (sankalp) on Dashami evening. On Ekadashi rise at Brahma muhurta and bathe in a river or with sesame-infused water. Worship Vishnu in Trivikrama form with white and yellow flowers. Recite Apara Ekadashi Katha and Vishnu Stotram. Feed Brahmins and donate gold or food in charity. Maintain silence or minimal speech throughout the day.
When to Observe
Krishna Paksha Ekadashi of Jyeshtha month (May–June). Falls during the hot summer month of Jyeshtha when fasting is particularly meritorious due to the physical difficulty involved.
Fasting Rules
Complete fast from grains and non-vegetarian food. Avoid salt (or use only sendha namak). Strictly avoid anger, lust, and greed as these negate the fast's merit. Fruits, milk, coconut water, and dry fruits are permitted.
How to Break the Fast
Break fast on Dwadashi morning after sunrise puja. Offer water to Tulsi and the Sun before eating. Donate food to the needy. Begin meal with amla, sesame, or barley — grains that are Dwadashi-appropriate.
