Goddess Worship — Vedic Puja Vidhi

Matangi Puja

Deity Goddess Matangi (Ucchishta Chandalini)
Duration 2–4 hours (standard); ongoing daily worship for vashikaran or arts mastery
Category Goddess Worship

Matangi Puja is the tantric worship of the ninth Mahavidya, Goddess Matangi — the dark, emerald-complexioned Devi of outcaste wisdom, mastery over the arts, and the transformative power that lies in what society deems impure or forbidden. She is called Ucchishta Chandalini ("she of the polluted remnants / outcaste") because she dwells at the margins of ritual purity, delighting in leftover food, and reveals that the divine is equally present in the discarded and the forbidden as in the consecrated. In this she is the tantric shadow of Saraswati — where Saraswati represents sanctioned, Brahminical knowledge, Matangi rules over heterodox wisdom, music, magic, domination, and the power to attract any person to oneself. She holds a veena (lute), a skull, a sword, and a goad. Her blessings are especially sought by musicians, dancers, artists, orators, and those wishing to achieve command over others through speech or artistic mastery.

Benefits

Grants mastery over music, dance, and the performing arts, bestows commanding eloquence and the power to enchant and influence others through speech, enables vashikaran (attraction and control of desired persons), removes conflicts and disputes in family and society, develops clairvoyance and psychic hearing (clairaudience), awakens hidden artistic genius, and breaks social and psychological barriers to self-expression.

Step-by-Step Procedure

Set up a green-cloth altar. Place the Matangi yantra and a veena or musical instrument near the altar as an offering. The offering of ucchishta (leftover or half-eaten food) is the defining hallmark of authentic Matangi puja — the ritualist eats a little of the prasad first, then re-offers the remainder to the goddess. Offer green fruits, green leafy vegetables, cooked rice with green herbs, and green bangles. Light sesame or neem oil lamps. Recite the Matangi Moola Mantra (Om Hrim Aim Hrim Matangye Namah) 1,008 times with a crystal mala. Sing or play music as an additional offering. Recite Matangi Stotram and Ucchishta Ganapati Puja if performing the full left-hand tantric form.

Best Time (Muhurat)

Navami of both Navratris, Sunday nights, the months of Magha and Ashadha, and Matangi Jayanti. Ideal time is late night after the householders have eaten dinner (when ucchishta is naturally present).
