During the annual Ambubachi Mela (June), the goddess is believed to menstruate — the temple remains closed for three days and the prasad of red-soaked cloth (angabastra) is considered supremely auspicious. Her worship draws tantric adepts, Kaula practitioners, vamachara initiates, and devotees seeking fulfilment of deep desires, fertility blessings, and liberation through the left-hand (vama) path.

Step-by-Step Procedure
Establish a red-cloth altar facing west (direction of Kamakhya). Place the Kamakhya yantra and red Shrichakra. Offer red hibiscus flowers, red sindoor, red sweets, fish, and meat (if following tantric vamachara tradition). Light mustard-oil lamps. Recite the Kamakhya Beej Mantra (Krim Hrim Shrim) 108 or 1,008 times. Chant Kamakhya Stotram and Devi Mahatmya. Offer red cloth (angavastra) as the primary offering. In the Ambubachi season, perform the puja with special red prasad. Conclude with Shakti aarti.
