Goddess Worship — Vedic Puja Vidhi

Kamakhya Puja

Deity Goddess Kamakhya (Shakti Peetha)
Duration 3–6 hours (standard puja); 3-day Ambubachi ritual cycle
Category Goddess Worship

Kamakhya Puja is a supreme tantric worship offered to Goddess Kamakhya, the presiding deity of the Kamakhya Shakti Peetha on Nilachal Hill in Guwahati, Assam — one of the most revered Shakti Peethas in the world. Kamakhya is worshipped as the yoni (womb) of the universe, representing the raw, primordial creative and regenerative power of the Divine Mother. She embodies desire (kama), fertility, creation, and tantric siddhi. The goddess has no traditional anthropomorphic form here; her shrine is a natural rock cleft symbolising her creative power, perpetually moist with subterranean spring water. During the annual Ambubachi Mela (June), the goddess is believed to menstruate — the temple remains closed for three days and the prasad of red-soaked cloth (angabastra) is considered supremely auspicious. Her worship draws tantric adepts, Kaula practitioners, vamachara initiates, and devotees seeking fulfilment of deep desires, fertility blessings, and liberation through the left-hand (vama) path.

Recite the Kamakhya Beej Mantra (Krim Hrim Shrim) 108 or 1,008 times. Chant Kamakhya Stotram and Devi Mahatmya. Offer red cloth (angavastra) as the primary offering.
