Goddess Worship — Vedic Puja Vidhi

Bhuvaneshwari Puja

Deity Goddess Bhuvaneshwari (Queen of the Universe)
Duration 2–4 hours (standard); 9-day Navratri sadhana for full blessings
Category Goddess Worship

Bhuvaneshwari Puja is the sublime tantric worship of the fourth Mahavidya, Goddess Bhuvaneshwari — the Queen (Ishwari) of all the worlds (Bhuvana), the cosmic mother whose very body is space itself and all that it contains. She is the primordial space-consciousness — Akasha Devi — whose red-golden form blazes like the morning sun, adorned with a crescent moon on her crown, wearing a noose and goad in two hands while the other two offer boons and grant protection. Unlike the fierce Mahavidyas, Bhuvaneshwari is primarily benevolent and nurturing, the cosmic womb from which all creation springs and to which it returns. She is the Devi of vast space, expanding consciousness, sovereign authority, and divine sovereignty over all material and spiritual realms. The Bhuvaneshwari Tantra teaches that worshipping her grants the devotee the awareness that their own true nature is as vast and unlimited as space itself — the realisation of Brahman through the feminine principle.

Benefits

Expands consciousness and dissolves limitations of the small self, bestows sovereignty, leadership, and authority in all spheres of life, grants vast and enduring wealth and material abundance, removes constriction, scarcity mindset, and fear, develops a magnanimous and expansive personality, accelerates progress toward self-realisation, and bestows the experience of inner infinite space (chidakasha) in meditation.

Step-by-Step Procedure

Establish a golden-yellow or saffron-cloth altar facing east. Place the Bhuvaneshwari yantra at the centre. Begin with deep pranayama to expand awareness to the quality of infinite space. Invoke Ganesha, then recite the Bhuvaneshwari Dhyana shloka. Perform the Shodashopachara (sixteen-fold worship) as befits a queen — lavish offerings of golden flowers (champak, marigold), fruits, milk, honey, and perfume. Recite the Bhuvaneshwari Moola Mantra (Hrim) or the longer mantra (Om Aim Hrim Shrim Bhuvaneshwaryai Namah) 1,008 times with a sphatik or rudraksha mala. Meditate on the form of the goddess as the infinite sky. Recite Devi Mahatmya chapters 1–3 (Madhu-Kaitabha episode, representing the emergence of consciousness from sleep). Offer aarti with camphor flame to symbolise the light of consciousness in infinite space.

Best Time (Muhurat)

Chaturdashi (14th lunar day) of Shukla Paksha, Thursday and Friday, both Navratris, and Bhuvaneshwari Jayanti (Ashwin Shukla Ashtami). Ideal time is dawn (Brahma Muhurta) when space is most expansive and luminous.
