Seasonal Festivals — Hindu Sacred Festival
Ugadi
Ugadi (from Sanskrit "Yuga" + "Adi" = beginning of a new era) is the Hindu New Year for the people of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana, celebrated on the first day of Chaitra month. According to legend, Lord Brahma began the creation of the universe on this day. The festival marks the beginning of a new samvatsara (year in the Hindu lunisolar calendar) and is considered highly auspicious for starting new ventures. The most distinctive tradition is the Bevu-Bella (eating neem leaves and jaggery together), symbolizing the acceptance of both the bitter and sweet experiences that the new year will bring.
