Seasonal Festivals — Hindu Sacred Festival
Basant Panchami
Basant Panchami (Vasant Panchami) marks the arrival of spring and is dedicated to Goddess Saraswati — the deity of knowledge, arts, music, and learning. The festival falls on the fifth day of the bright half of Magha month. Yellow is the signature color of the festival — devotees dress in yellow, offer yellow flowers and yellow sweets to Saraswati, and fields of mustard in full bloom celebrate the season. Students worship their books and musical instruments, and many children begin formal education (Vidya Arambha) on this auspicious day.
