Panguni Uttaram
Panguni Uttaram is a major Tamil festival celebrated on the full moon day of the Tamil month Panguni when the moon is in the Uttara Phalguni nakshatra. It marks the celestial wedding (thirukalyanam) of Lord Murugan with Devasena (Theivanai) and also commemorates the divine marriages of Shiva-Parvati and Vishnu-Lakshmi. It is one of the most important festivals at all Murugan temples (Arupadai Veedu — the six sacred abodes of Murugan). Huge chariot processions (ther) are conducted, and devotees carry kavadi as penance.
