Ekadashi Fasts — Hindu Sacred Fast
Bhaimi Ekadashi (Jaya Ekadashi)
Bhaimi Ekadashi, also known as Jaya Ekadashi, falls on Magha Shukla Ekadashi (January/February). It is called "Bhaimi" because Bhima (the second Pandava), who could not observe most Ekadashis due to insatiable hunger, observed this one with great devotion. The Brahma Vaivarta Purana declares that observing Jaya Ekadashi liberates souls from ghosthood (preta-yoni) — making it especially significant for those who wish to free deceased ancestors from negative states of existence.
