Seemantonnayana Ceremony
Seemantonnayana is one of the sixteen Vedic samskaras (rites of passage) performed during the seventh or eighth month of pregnancy to bless the unborn child and protect the mother. The ritual involves parting the hair of the expectant mother with a porcupine quill or a stem of Udumbara while Vedic mantras are chanted. The ceremony is meant to ensure the healthy development of the baby, ward off evil spirits, and calm the mind of the mother during the crucial final trimester.
