Life Ceremonies — Vedic Puja Vidhi

Karnavedha Ceremony

Deity Surya, Chandra & protective deities
Duration 1–2 hours
Category Life Ceremonies

Karnavedha is the sacred ear-piercing ceremony, one of the sixteen Shodasha Samskaras, traditionally performed when a child is between 3 months and 5 years old. The Sanskrit word "karnavedha" means "piercing of the ear." According to Vedic tradition, ear-piercing opens the ear canal for receiving sacred Vedic sounds and provides protection against diseases. The ceremony has both spiritual significance — connecting the child to divine sounds — and is believed to have health benefits based on Ayurvedic acupuncture principles.
