Chaturdashi Puja

Deity Lord Shiva & Lord Yama
Duration 1–2 hours (or all-night vigil)
Category Other Pujas

Chaturdashi Puja is observed on the fourteenth day (Chaturdashi tithi) of both lunar fortnights. The Krishna Paksha Chaturdashi (dark fortnight) is associated with Lord Shiva and ancestors, while Shivratri — the most important Chaturdashi — falls in Magh or Phalgun month. Masik Shivratri is observed every month with night-long fasting and worship of Shiva. The day also carries significance for appeasing Yama, the god of death, for protection of loved ones and liberation of ancestral souls.
