Kumbh Mela
Kumbh Mela is the world's largest religious gathering, held at four sacred river confluences — Prayagraj (Triveni Sangam), Haridwar, Nashik, and Ujjain — in a 12-year rotation. Its origins lie in the mythological Samudra Manthan (churning of the ocean), during which drops of Amrit (nectar of immortality) fell at these four sites. Pilgrims believe that bathing in the sacred waters during Kumbh Mela cleanses all sins and breaks the cycle of rebirth. The Maha Kumbh Mela at Prayagraj, held every 12 years, draws over 100 million pilgrims — the largest peaceful human gathering on earth. Sadhus, saints, and Naga Babas lead the royal bathing procession (Shahi Snan) on the most auspicious dates.
