## Open Plot Vastu
The Vastu of an open plot determines the quality of the house that will be built on it. Getting the plot's Vastu right before construction is far more effective than correcting problems after building.
Ideal Plot Shapes
Square and rectangular plots are the most Vastu-auspicious. They represent balance, completeness, and uniform energy distribution. Rectangular plots where the longer side faces north or east are especially beneficial.
Avoid: L-shaped plots (missing corner is a permanent dosha), T-shaped plots, triangular plots, and plots with too many irregular angles.
South-West Corner — Heaviest
The south-west corner of the plot must be the heaviest, highest, and most built-up area. Earth element governs south-west — heaviness here provides stability, wealth retention, and protection. Build the main structure's south-west portion first and make it the tallest.
The north-east corner must be the lowest, most open, and lightest — this allows divine energy to flow in unobstructed.
Road-Facing Direction
North-facing road: most auspicious for residential plots — Kuber's direction, wealth and new opportunities flow in. East-facing road: second best — morning sun energy, health and growth. South-facing road: generally avoided for residential; acceptable for commercial with correct Vastu adjustments. West-facing road: neutral; acceptable.
Plot Gradient
The plot should slope downward from south-west to north-east. This allows rainwater to flow from south-west toward north-east — symbolically and literally carrying earth energy toward the divine zone. Never have the north-east corner higher than south-west.

FAQ — Open Plot Vastu — Shape Rules, South-West Corner & Road-Facing Tips
Q.Which plot shape is best as per Vastu?
Square plots are the most auspicious in Vastu — they represent perfect balance and equal energy distribution in all four directions. Rectangular plots are the second-best choice, especially when the longer dimension runs east-west (wider from east to west). Both square and rectangular plots allow clean, unambiguous corner definition which is essential for Vastu. Avoid irregularly shaped plots with missing corners, especially missing north-east (most damaging) or south-west corners.
Q.Why should south-west corner of plot be heavy?
South-west is the earth element zone governed by the Nairuti (south-west deity). Heavy earth energy in the south-west provides stability, wealth retention, and protective grounding for everything built on the plot. When south-west is the heaviest, highest part of the plot, the entire structure's energy is anchored and stable. Conversely, a light or open south-west (like a gate or open space) allows wealth and stability to drain out. This is why the south-west room in a home should also be the master bedroom — the heaviest use room in the heaviest energy zone.
Q.Is north-facing plot good as per Vastu?
Yes, north-facing plots (where the main road faces north) are considered the most auspicious for residential properties in Vastu. North is the direction of Kuber (god of wealth) — a north-facing plot receives Kuber's energy directly from the road, channelling wealth, new opportunities, and positive connections into the home. The north-facing entrance allows the beneficial cool north breeze and morning north light into the home. North-facing commercial plots are also excellent for businesses focused on finance, trading, and wealth generation.
