Rath Yatra

Deity Lord Jagannath (Vishnu/Krishna)
Month Ashadha Shukla Dwitiya (June/July)
Region Puri (Odisha) — most famous; celebrated pan-India and worldwide

Rath Yatra (Chariot Festival) of Puri is one of the oldest and grandest Hindu festivals, held at the Jagannath Temple in Puri, Odisha. Three enormous wooden chariots carrying the idols of Lord Jagannath (Krishna), his brother Balabhadra, and sister Subhadra are pulled through the streets by thousands of devotees to the Gundicha Temple — where they stay for 7 days before returning (Bahuda Yatra). The word "juggernaut" in English derives from Jagannath. Rath Yatras are also celebrated across India and worldwide.
