Overview

Rahu Dosha arises when the north lunar node occupies sensitive houses or conjoins personal planets without the moderating influence of Jupiter or other benefics. Rahu is the planet of obsession, illusion, foreign influences, and insatiable desire. It amplifies whatever it touches — turning ambitions into compulsions and aspirations into delusions. In classical Vedic astrology, Rahu is a shadow planet (chaya graha) with no physical body, operating through the psychology of wanting rather than the satisfaction of having. Its dosha manifests as chronic dissatisfaction, attraction to the unconventional, susceptibility to deception, and unhealthy attachments to material outcomes. Foreign travel and residence are common, but often accompanied by rootlessness. Obsessive behaviours in careers, relationships, or finances form the hallmark of an unresolved Rahu. Classical texts note that Rahu reflects karmic debts from excessive attachment in past lives, and the current life presents opportunities to transmute obsession into purposeful ambition. When well-aspected, Rahu grants extraordinary worldly success; when afflicted, it creates cycles of striving without fulfilment.

• 01Rahu Beej Mantra — "ॐ भ्रां भ्रीं भ्रौं सः राहवे नमः" (Om Bhram Bhrim Bhrom Sah Rahave Namah) — recited 108 times daily for 18,000 total repetitions, ideally begun on a Saturday during Rahu Kaal.
• 02Durga Saptashati path on consecutive Fridays — Rahu's controlling deity is Durga/Kali; recitation of the 700 verses of the Devi Mahatmyam neutralises shadow planet afflictions.
• 03Offering blue flowers, coconut, and mustard oil at a Bhairav temple on Saturdays during Rahu Kaal — Bhairav is Rahu's tantric form and pacification through his worship is prescribed in Tantrasara.
• 04Wearing a natural hessonite garnet (Gomed) of 8–10 carats in silver or panchdhatu on the middle finger of the right hand, energised on a Saturday.
